Questions About Braces
What is the difference between metal and clear braces?
Metal braces are made of stainless steel, while clear braces are made of tooth-colored materials that blend in with your teeth, making them almost unnoticeable.
Do clear braces stain easily?
Clear braces are designed to resist staining, but they can discolor over time if they’re not cared for properly. We recommend avoiding eating or drinking staining substances (such as coffee or tea) and brushing your teeth regularly to keep your braces clean.
How long do I need to wear braces?
Every patient is unique, so the length of time you’ll need to wear your Charleston dental braces will depend on your individual needs and treatment plan. On average, most patients wear braces for 1-2 years.
Can I play sports or musical instruments with metal or clear braces?
Of course! We encourage our patients to stay active and pursue their passions, even with braces. If you play contact sports, we recommend wearing a mouthguard, and taking extra care when playing wind instruments to avoid damaging your braces.
How often do I need to come in for adjustments?
Dr. Anderson typically recommends that patients come in for adjustments every 4-6 weeks. However, she may adjust the schedule as needed based on your individual progress.
Can I still eat my favorite foods with braces?
While you may need to make some adjustments to your diet during your treatment, you can still enjoy most of your favorite foods. We recommend avoiding hard, sticky, or chewy foods that can damage your braces, and cutting up harder foods like apples into smaller pieces to make them easier to eat.
